A meeting with the Masai community that we trained three months ago has yielded positive results.
During an evaluation visit, we discovered that community members have now formed a group of Village Community Banking (VICOBA).
This initiative is aimed at ensuring they started saving money towards their community development for their community and families
Viable Community Initiatives helps communities to realize all the resources at their disposal and how to utilize them to improve their standard of living.
In our continued quest to shatter conformity and spark transformation that is uncommon, the team embarked on a visit to Lobogo community to sensitize and enlighten community members about Outcomes, Practices and Open Space (OPOS).
This became necessary due to the level of hardship and challenges faced by this community despite being blessed with abundant human and natural resources that if well harnessed, will certainly bring succour to all of them.
During our interaction, the community members shared some of the common and copious challenges that have kept them in poverty.
We then introduced the concept of OPOS and how they can utilise it to initiate homegrown solutions that are cost-effective but very resourceful in solving most of the challenges they highlighted. Interestingly, the community members were convinced beyond a reasonable doubt, that this is the way to go and promised to embrace and implement OPOS going forward.
Suffice it to say that, one of our core mandates at Viable Community Initiatives is to help create a platform for community members to share things that have entangled them and kept their children and adults in horrible conditions and also allow them to provide solutions to their challenges, which in our strong opinion, is more practicable and sustainable over a long period.
Sharing VCI ideology to EMS missionaries of ECWA in 3 states, consist of participants from Borno, Yobe and Gombe State. These are places boko haram have started.
The training has spark a critical thinking to the missionaries in ways the never imagine. With this training today we as VCI Nigeria team can boldly say, OPOS is the pillar of hope and inspiration in liberating remote villages from poverty, abuse and disease in Nigeria.
Most of these missionaries are working among highly dominated and resistant Muslim communities. This necessitated the need for Viable Community Initiatives (VCI) OPOS training to help them understand and acquire the VCI ideology to make their missions work holistically which will in turn serve as a bridge to reach out to these communities with the transforming power of the gospel.
Again the missionaries were so excited to have been exposed to all the basic outcomes and practices of VCI and it is very importance to their families and communities.
From their feedback at the end of the Open Space Session, they highlighted some of the things they have learnt and plan to implement in and or with their families and communities which include the following:
1. To begin clearing their drainages to improve their sanitation and teach their communities to engage in general sanitation to improve their health condition.
2. Provide education for their children. Some testified that they still have school-age children who are at home. And also promised to give all necessary support for the children to succeed in school.
3. They identified some small businesses that they will start doing to improve their income.
VCI remains a very powerful catalyst that is helping us break new ground in missions and our engagement with communities. May this partnership continue to thrive.

Deepening the VCI ideology acrsoss the Northwest, Nigeria.
It is a statement of fact that "God will not do for man, what man can and should do to himself"
This is why the VCI Nigeria team is leaving no stone unturned in storming different communities across this region to train and deepen OPOS training in different homes and families.
Today, the Gidan Tsoro community of Tudun Wada, Kano state were mobilised and trained in basic home practices of Safety, a Happy home, Health education and economic security.
After much deliberations, it opened the eyes of the community's members to myriads of problems confronting them but have been complacent about it.
However, the good news is that with OPOS, the participants confessed that they can now utilise the resources around them to solve most of these challenges and make life more meaningful and productive.
We will not relent until we ensure that our communities are free from avoidable hunger and diseases. vcinitiatives.org ... See MoreSee Less

Outcomes, Practices and Open Space (OPOS) has become a veritable tool in transforming cultures and values that have kept a lot of communities in extreme poverty, abuse, disease and violence over time.
Also, OPOS has now provided us a powerful window in bringing all religions (Muslim, Christian and traditional worshipers) together to share a common goal.
For the past two days, the VCI team had an interesting interaction with EMS of ECWA missionaries in 4 District Church Council (DCC)in Tunga Maje community, FCT, Abuja And Niger State.
We had 60 missionaries in attendance and all of them are in charge of 200 communities.
From their feedback at the end of the Open Space session, they highlighted some of the things they have learnt and plan to implement in and or with their families and communities which include the following:
1. Improve sanitation in their homes and extend the same to the communities where they work.
2. They will provide and protect their immediate families from traditions that don't add value to their lives and also extend this awareness to other members of their communities.
3. Many testified that there are no toilets in the community even in their chief's houses. They plan to dig or provide toilets in their houses and communities beginning from their chief's house.
4. They will help or facilitate their communities to identify their needs and how to solve them.
5. They will create small help (cooperatives) groups to increase their income.
VCI is a very powerful catalyst that is helping us break new ground in missions and our engagement with communities.
In no distant time, missionaries will leverage and use the OPOS tool to share and expand the Gospel of Jesus Christ while adding value to their families and their host communities.
